Concept store design for a National chain of retailers with a focus on the speed of installation.

We were approached to do a concept store design for a new retail chain; The Barbershop.
The Barbershop stores would be a National chain of barber pods located in the car parks of superstores. Extending the offering of the store.
The barber pods would be constructed in a workshop and simply sited on a preprepared base, maximising efficiency and minimising disruption to the stores.
Space planning such a small retail space was a challenge. The heating/ cooling of such a busy little space is managed by airconditioning. The business plan required 3 work stations, along with which we managed to fit in a waiting area, drinks fridge and enough storage for the units to be totally self-sufficient.
As we were so tight on space it would have been easy for this to become a totally functional space. We needed to use every square cm including the ceiling to bring the brand to life.
I would describe the style we developed as ‘gentleman’s club’. We used cherry leather seating, traditional barber chairs, the ceiling is totally covered with a heritage world map. The walls are clad with timber and we used the built-in cabinets as the base for lots of lighting to avoid the space feeling too crowded.
The facia signage was developed to stand out in the visually busy space around superstores.

The Barbershop is coming to a supermarket near you!
